Racing, Racing.. everybody was racing…

April 10 – 11 saw the Rostello Team color’s flying over hill, over dale, over everywhere. On the pavement and dirt of Battenkill, on the trails of Camp Hilbert, at Langley Speedway and Conquering the Canal racing was had by one and all. James and Hugh made the trip North to Battenkill where Hugh is finding his form and is racing very well . Hugh was off the front for about 20 miles with a small group. The peloton caught the break just before dirt section 7 of 8. Hugh got cramps in both legs shortly thereafter and lost contact with the group, he rode a great race. Just to make it through the first 3 sections of dirt with the main field is an accomplishment. The one thing that is always a factor at Battenkill is the wind and it was a major factor on Saturday. For more than 2/3 of the race it was blowing across the road and it was hard to find shelter in small groups. James claims is race not all that great. BUT, he enjoyed the experience so much that he is already planning next year trip.

Camp Hilbert saw our own Paula, Frank and Brent giving it their all and then some. Paula worked her way up the field, picking out the gal in front of her and just kept hammering those pedals until Paula final moved her way up for a 3rd place finish. Frank had the lead in his race until a mishap that involved a broken seat stem and a trip to the ER for Frank. A Lot of stitches later Frank was released and will unfortunately is off the bike for a little while. Heal quick Frank. Brent continues to grab the podium with a 2nd place finish in the Expert 35+ category.

Conquer the Canal was the Time Trial event for the weekend with absolutely perfect weather. Mark Pye, Brian, Mark North, Steve, Kristen, Sharon, Pam, and Karen all trekked down to Chesapeake and raced the ultimate race against the clock. Kristin took 1st in the Junior’s 13 -14 category, Sharon grabbed 2nd in the Women’s 40+ and Mark North smoked the course with a 29:00 even and took 3rd in the Men’s 40+

The final race of the weekend was the Langley Criterium where again Kristin, Julia, Karen and Sharon raced in the women’s field.  Kristin actually raced twice, both the Junior’s race and the Women’s CAT 4. The women raced strong and were in the hunt for the entire race showing that even though most of them are recovering from a winter of surgical procedures they still have the legs to compete. Sharon managed a 3rd place finish in the Women’s 40 + with Karen and Julia finishing in the field.

The entire weekend of racing was another great showing for Rostello.
