2010 Road Season Summary

VCA Women’s 40+ BAR winner.

VCA 4th Place Overall Team.

VCA 4th Place Women’s Team.

The team had 21 First, 23 Seconds, 9 Thirds and 7 Fourths.

Depending on which calendar you check the 2010 Road Season began as early as Valentine’s Day with Cycor roadies heading a little South to participate in the Wolfpack Classic and if hurricane Igor had not threatened a certain island, some would still be racing a little later this month.  For most of the road team the last race was this past weekend September 12th.

Our results are pretty incredible considering in most races our cyclist are racing without the help of teammates. Except for a few cases where James and Hugh were in the same field, or early in the season before several riders went on the injured reserve list. The results are a direct reflection of cyclist racing smart and strong all season long.

14 cyclist contributed points to our standings. Sharon Leary, Kristin Schaefer, Hugh Brown and James Schaefer raced in multiple categories.

Cycor Sports promoted TWO races, the Sprint Into Spring crit with the proceeds close to $2800.00 donated to the Fort Lee Morale Welfare fund.  This fund provided various activities for Soldiers and Family members to participate in year round on Fort Lee.  Plus the VA State Senior Time Trial.
WE provided officials to multiple races road, track and CX.

Hugh Brown upgraded to a CAT 3 and Kristin Schaefer toed the line more as a CAT 4 woman than she did as a junior, look for her to cat-up early in 2011.

ALL in ALL a fantastic 2010 season with only bigger and better things to come in 2011.

Rostello presented by Fiorucci/CyCor has a Virginia State Track Champion

It was a long day (4:00pm – 10:00pm) of Virginia State Track Racing at Southside Speedway Saturday, August 28, 2010. For Tom Doyle’s age group, he was up against five track racers from the Tidewater area. All five came in hopes that one of them would win the championship on their own track bike, but they failed to tell Tom. Pete Swann’s wife, Sally, felt sorry for Tom, told him he had his number on the wrong side and repined it for him. Tom had been loaned a fast, but tricky CSK track bike. The first chance he got to ride the bike was in the 500m race (which required a 1.3 lap all out sprint) and he did okay, but he was a little scared by how fast it went trough the corners and still held a tight line. Before his next race he got to adjust the saddle height, do some fast practice laps and started to relax on the bike. For the 2000m (5.3 laps) Tom showed how relaxed he had become on the CSK by winning the race by almost 1/4 of a lap. The final race was a 15 lap Points Race in which the entire age group are on the track and racing as a group. Every five laps there is a sprint to the finish line and the top five were scored points. Tom placed 2nd, 1st and 1st. By winning the final sprint Tom got double points and was declared the Omnium Winner and Virginia State Track Age Champion by one point. Tom feels Track Racing is so much fun, quite safe and hopes more of the Rostello presented by Fiorucci/CyCor members will give it a try because nothing else improves acceleration and sprint ability like Track Racing.
